What’s Available in the Santiago Region
According to Vultr’s official announcement, users can now select the Santiago region (region code: scl) in the control panel to deploy the following cloud services:
- Cloud Compute: Shared-CPU instances powered by Intel and AMD processors, suited for websites, e-commerce stores, and lightweight backends;
- Optimized Cloud Compute: Dedicated vCPU instances built for high-concurrency compute, memory-intensive, or storage-heavy workloads;
- Bare Metal: Single-tenant physical servers with zero virtualization overhead;
- Cloud Storage & Networking: Block Storage, VPC networking, and automated backups.
In the official press release, J.J. Kardwell, CEO of Vultr’s parent company Constant, noted that digital businesses and local engineering teams across Latin America are growing rapidly, yet often face high pricing and limited regional options from traditional hyperscalers. Launching the Santiago facility gives businesses and individual users across Chile and the west coast of South America lower-latency cloud infrastructure with predictable monthly pricing.
Who Should Choose Santiago?
Previously, users targeting South American audiences mostly had to deploy servers in São Paulo, Brazil on the east coast. Because the Andes mountains divide the continent’s fiber routes, traffic from west-coast countries such as Chile and Peru to São Paulo often had to take longer paths with higher latency.
With the Santiago data center live, users running Latin American e-commerce stores, regional logistics systems, game servers, or localized APIs can deploy directly inside Chile. This cuts latency for west-coast visitors and pairs well with São Paulo for dual-region disaster recovery across South America.
