Cloud infrastructure provider Vultr announced on May 19 during Milan AI Week that its new cloud data center in Milan, Italy is officially open. This launch marks Vultr’s 33rd global data center region and its ninth location in Europe, joining Amsterdam, Frankfurt, London, Madrid, Manchester, Paris, Stockholm, and Warsaw.

Network Connectivity and Available Services in Milan
According to Vultr’s official press release, the Milan data center (region code: mxp) connects directly as an Autonomous System Number (ASN) at the Milan Internet Exchange (MIX). Direct peering with major Italian and Southern European carriers keeps regional traffic inside Italy rather than detouring through Frankfurt or Paris.
Users can now deploy Vultr’s full cloud and AI infrastructure stack in the Milan region:
- Cloud Compute & VX1 Compute Instances: Built for websites, corporate portals, application backends, and development environments;
- Cloud GPU & Bare Metal: Accelerated instances powered by NVIDIA and AMD GPUs for local AI inference and training workloads;
- Managed Containers, Storage & Bandwidth Pool: Support for Kubernetes, Block Storage, Object Storage, and Vultr’s global account-level bandwidth pool.
At the launch event, Vultr CEO J.J. Kardwell noted that Italy is one of Europe’s fastest-growing cloud infrastructure markets, with Milan at its economic and digital core—and that the new facility gives local and international teams high-performance cloud compute at predictable costs far below legacy hyperscalers.
Which Workloads Benefit Most?
Previously, e-commerce stores and localized applications serving visitors in Italy, southern Switzerland, and the wider Mediterranean typically had to place servers in Frankfurt or Paris. With the Milan facility live and peering directly at MIX, Italian visitors get faster page loads and lower API latency while organizations meet EU and in-country Italian data residency requirements.
Sign Up and Test the Milan Region
The Milan, Italy region is open to all accounts, and standard Cloud Compute plans (such as the 1 vCPU / 2GB RAM plan at $10/mo) can be paid for directly using the $300 new-user trial credit (valid for 30 days).
Users planning to deploy European or Italian workloads can register a Vultr account through the link below, select Europe -> Milan on the deployment page, and create a server to test local Italian network performance first-hand.
